Two men were rescued from Long Island Sound after their boat capsized Thursday afternoon.

The 18-foot boat was anchored about 7 miles off the Branford coastline when it began taking on water, according to officials. The men tried to raise the anchor, but couldn't.

According to authorities, as one of the men went below to get life jackets, the boat capsized. The boat's owner was able to jump into the water, but the man who had gone to get life jackets, George O'Keefe, was trapped underneath the boat, officials said. O'Keefe gained his composure and was able to free himself from under the boat and swim to the surface.

Rescue crews from Branford Police, Branford Fire Department and the Coast Guard arrived quickly and pulled the two men from the water. Both men were not seriously hurt. The boat owner did not want to be identified.
