Men Tried to Charge Over $8K to Fake Credit Cards: Police

Old Saybrook police said they found 71 fake credit cards on two Florida men allegedly attempting to buy expensive items with fake credit cards at a local store Tuesday.

Yosbell Ciscard Jimenez, 37, and Toniel Eugelle Argamonte, 48, both of Miami, Fla., face multiple charges including credit card theft, forgery, and identity theft.

The pair is accused of trying to buy over $8,200 worth of merchandise, including GPS map plotters, radios and speaker systems, at West Marine at 1667 Boston Post Road using fake credit cards.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police said when the men tried to make the purchase employees called police because they thought they were acting suspiciously.

Police said when they arrived they found the men with a total of 71 fake credit cards. The cards were marked with names that matched the suspects, but the magnetic strips actually contained someone else’s information.

Police also searched the suspects’ rental vehicle and found thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise police believe was purchased in other Connecticut towns with the fake cards.

Both men were issued $200,000 bonds. The investigation is ongoing and the US Secret Service, which investigates credit card fraud, is assisting the Old Saybrook police department.
