Former United Technologies Corp. president and current board Chairman George David, 67, and his estranged wife, Swedish countess Marie Douglas-David, return to Hartford Family Court on Monday morning, bringing their increasingly vicious divorce out in the open.
It looks like the trial for a messy $99 million divorce of a Swedish countess and the former UTC executive returns to court Monday morning.
The divorce proceedings, which began in March, have been a bit like a soap opera, with accusations of infidelity and tales of rough make-up sex, intolerable cruelty, verbal abuse, real estate holdings and elaborate and expensive lifestyles.
Thursday was the last chance for Marie Douglas-David, 37, and George David, 67, to settle their bitter dispute before returning to Hartford Family Court Monday morning for another round of divorce proceedings.
Although there was talk last week of a possible settlement, neither side would confirm it and they are still on the docket for this morning.
Douglas-David, a socialite and Swedish countess, wants $99 million from David, the former chairman of United Technologies, to pay for her whopping weekly expenses of $54,000. (You can read about them here.) David's net worth is estimated to be about $300 million.
Lawyers for Douglas-David are asking a judge to void a post-nuptial agreement the couple made, which would have given the countess $43 million.
Douglas-David says she has no income, insists she was pressured to sign the document and was desperate to save their marriage.
She also suggests she's entitled to more because she served as an unofficial consultant for her husband’s business matters during their marriage.
She married David in 2002, but the marriage was in trouble just two years later and they have filed for divorce four times.
The trial started in March and was studded with accusations of infidelity and tales of rough make-up sex, intolerable cruelty and verbal abuse.
