Middletown Man Sexually Assault Woman, Vandalized Booking Room: PD

Middletown police have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman then vandalizing police property when in custody.

According to an arraignment report, Booker T Edwards, 37, of Middletown, showed up at the victim’s home around 4:30 a.m. Thursday. The victim reported to police that Edwards had a key and entered the home while she was sleeping.

Police said there is an active protective order between Edwards and the victim that orders Edwards to stay away from the victim’s home.

The victim said Edwards woke her up then instructed her to come downstairs and take off her clothes. According to the report, Edwards repeatedly slapped the victim in the face then grabbed a knife from a kitchen drawer and threatened her with the weapon. Edwards reportedly threatened to kill the victim because she “causes too many problems.” Edwards also threatened the victim’s family.

The report states that Edward forced the victim to take off her clothes and have sex with him. Edwards threatened to cut her or hit her if she refused. The victim said she could not escape and followed orders because she was afraid.

According to the report, Edwards returned to the home, entered through the back door around 3 p.m. and slapped the victim twice in front of her children. Around 4 p.m. he returned again but this time stayed outside, according to the victim.

The victim had a cut on her left arm as a result of the struggle with Edwards, the report says.

Police responded when they received a complaint that a man, later identified as Edwards, flashed a gun at several people. The report states that a man near the victim’s home reported that Edwards showed a gun, pulled a mask over his face and ran into the woods near the victim’s home. Several other pedestrians were in the area at the time.

Police located Edwards and he was arrested. While in custody Edwards grabbed a booking room computer monitor and threw it, according to the report. The report says that Edwards was “extremely violent, hostile and threatening” while in police custody, and damaged the wire cage in the booking area that separates prisoners from officers.

Edwards faces multiple charges including sexual assault, second-degree threatening, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree unlawful restrain, criminal violation of a protective order and interfering with an officer. He was help on a $500,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court Friday at 9 a.m.
