Milford Family Escapes Raging Fire

Flames shot from the back of the house at 81 Bird Lane

A family escaped a raging fire in their Bird Lane home in Milford early Friday morning.

The two-alarm fire broke out in the house at 81 Bird Lane just before 3:30 a.m. Family members smelled smoke and then saw the flames and escaped before calling 911, according to fire officials.

Flames shot from the back of the house and caused extensive damage throughout the structure.

Officials said the fire was knocked down within about 15 minutes of the initial response. Crews ventilated the roof and remained on the scene for several hours to monitor hot spots.

Three engines, a ladder and rescue companies, the shift commander and an additional alarm truck responded to the scene.

No one was injured, but the home is destroyed and the family of three is displaced.

The fire marshal is working to determine how the fire started.
