Milford Firefighters Rescue 10 People from Rising Tide

Milford firefighters rescued ten people stranded by the rising tide Monday.

Fire officials said around 1:10 p.m. a bystander called 911 to report a group of people stranded between Silver Sands State Park and Charles Island. The group of two adults and eight children apparently walked out to a sandbar during low tide and could not make it back to shore as the tide rose.

When rescue crews arrived they found the children could barely keep their heads above water. Firefighters rescued the two youngest children on a specialized Jet Ski. The remaining victims were picked up by Marine 1 and 2. Everyone was evaluated on shore and no injuries were reported, fire officials said.

Officials remind visitors to obey any posted warning signs along the shoreline.
