Milford Police Arrests Suspects in Attempted Tire Thefts from Car Dealership

Police arrested two men accused of trying to steal rims and tires from a Milford car dealership last week. 

Police said they responded to Courtney Honda, at 767 Bridgeport Ave., around 4 a.m. on Wednesday to investigate reports of suspicious men walking around the lot. 

While heading to the scene, officers learned that a staff member who was not at the dealership was looking at video surveillance that showed two men taking tires and rims off of cars in the lot. 

As officers were en route, they learned that the men had just left in a White SUV. 

While responding, officers found a White SUV in the area of Bridgeport Avenue and School House Road and performed a motor vehicle stop. 

Inside the vehicle, police found 45-year-old Franky Cortez, Newburg New York, and 40-year-old Steven Green, of Bronx New York. 

Police said Cortez admitted to trying to steal tires and rims from the dealership, using Green as a lookout. 

Inside the truck police found cinderblocks, cutting tools, a vehicle jack and tire iron, police said, and they found more cinderblocks at the dealership and a hammer an area of fence that had been cut. 

Police said the windows of several vehicles at the dealership had been smashed and lug nuts were removed. 

Cortez and Green are accused of attempted to take or damaging more than $12,600 worth of vehicle parts. 

Cortez was charged with second-degree larceny, second-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, four counts of second-degree criminal mischief, four counts of second-degree conspiracy to commit criminal mischief and Green was charged with second-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, second-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, second-degree conspiracy to commit criminal mischief. 

Cortez was released on $100,000 bond and is due in Milford Court on Nov. 15. 

Green was held on $100,000 bond.
