Mom Was Driving Under the Influence Among Trick-or-Treaters: Cops

A mom from Vernon was arrested, accused of driving under the influence on a street full of children out for trick or treating.

Police arrested Amber Haaser, 43, of Ward Street in Vernon, just before 7 p.m. on Halloween after getting a 911 call from her young child, police said.

One of the women’s children told 911 dispatchers that something was wrong with their mother. Police said they found the car stopped in the middle of Hany Lane, near Donnell Drive, which was crowded with trick-or-treaters.

Police said their investigation revealed that Haaser was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

She was charged with driving under the influence and brought back to Vernon Police headquarters. No information was immediately available about what happened to the children.

Haaser was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a child, operating under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, failure to submit to chemical testing and improper parking.

She was held on a $5,000 surety bond and will appear at GA-19 on Nov. 1.

More information will be posted once it becomes available.
