Mom's Boyfriend Accused of Assaulting 3-Year-Old Girl in New Britain: Police

New Britain police have arrested a man after investigating a suspected case of child abuse and said the 3-year-old victim suffered a skull fracture.

Frank Alezander Santiago, 24, of New Britain, turned himself in to police on Sunday.

Police said they responded to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Thursday after a little girl with a skull fracture had been admitted.

They said the victim’s injuries allegedly happened the day before and the girl’s parent initially sought treatment at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, but the 3-year-old was transferred because of the severity of her injuries.

Police said the mother’s boyfriend was the only caregiver for the girl when she was hurt and investigators later learned that he got upset with her and caused her head to hit the ground.

The victim sustained extensive internal and external injuries from the assault, according to police.

Santiago was charged with assault in the first degree and risk of injury to a minor.

He is being held on a $750,000.00 bond and is due in court today.
