Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Route 9 Crash

A 33-year-old Hamden man is in serious condition after crashing his motorcycle on Route 9 in New Britain, according to police.

Police said Patrick Thomas was driving his motorcycle on Route 9 southbond near exit 27 when, "for an unknown reason," he drove off the left shoulder of the highway and struck a utility pole around 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Thomas was taken to Saint Francis Hospital for treatment of a serious head injury sustained in the crash. It's not clear if he was wearing a helmet.

Route 9 southbound was closed for several hours between exits 27 and 28 following the crash.
