Fairfield Police Launch Internal Investigation Into Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Police said the motorcycle driver was trying to elude an officer when he crashed.

Fairfield police have launched an administrative investigation into the crash that killed a motorcycle driver in Bridgeport who was apparently trying to flee from police just after midnight Sunday.

According to Fairfield police, a Fairfield officer spotted the motorcycle driving without a license plate and pursued it.

Police said the driver, 23-year-old Arthur De-Andrade-Leao, of Bridgeport, accelerated in an apparent effort to get away from the officer.

He was traveling eastbound on North Avenue in Bridgeport, just over the Fairfield line, when he missed a curve and struck a pole, police said.

De-Andrade-Leao was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

State police are investigating the crash, and Fairfield police have started a separate administrative investigation to determine whether the responding officer violated any department policies, according to Deputy Chief Chris Lyddy.

The officer involved is still on active duty.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call State police Trooper First Class B. Santa at 203-630-8079.
