1 Dead in Salisbury Fire

The fire destroyed the house.

A 63-year-old woman is dead after a fire in a Salisbury home this morning. Police have identified her as Maria Paz Reyes.

Firefighters received a 911 call about the fire at 5 Upper Road in the Lakeville section of Salisbury just before 5 a.m., according to state police.

Two adults managed to escape, but Reyes was unable to get out of the house was found dead inside, police said.

One woman was able to get out by jumping from the second floor of the burning home and a neighbor brought her to the hospital, officials said.

The woman's husband was able to get out of the house OK, officials said. They believe he is at the hospital with his wife.

Reyes also lived in the house, according to state police.

Firefighters from 12 communities in three states, including Massachusetts and New York, came in to battle the house fire.

The house is at the top of a steep him and water was an issue, officials said. Tankers had to bring in water.

State police and the fire marshal are investigating.
