NY Officer Killed In Crash Caused By CT Driver

A New Britain man has been charged with one count of Negligent Homicide after his vehicle struck a Nassau County police officer’s vehicle Friday night in Old Westbury NY.

25-year-old John Kaley of East 23rd Street struck the police cruiser driven by 44-year-old Officer Michael J. Califano, a 12-year veteran with the Nassau County New York Police Department.

Officer Califano died of his injuries after being struck from behind by Kaley while conducting a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop on the Long Island Expressway.

Kaley was arraigned at the First District Court in Hempstead NY on Saturday. He was also charged with three counts of Assault 3rd Degree and Failing to move over for an Emergency Vehicle.
