Bakes Sales to Help Explosion Victims

Within hours of a home explosion in New Milford that killed a father and critically wounded the home owner and a 9-year-old boy, residents decided they had to do something.

A Facebook page, "New Milford Explosion Community," was created and funds for the two families affected have been set up.

Here are some ways to help:

Through Oct. 12, donate box tops and Campbell labels.

Saturday, Sept. 8: Bake sale starts at 9 a.m. at Stop and Shop, New Milford.

Saturday, Sept. 8: Bake sale and hope photo booth at Aurora Photography 162 Greenwood Avenue in Bethel, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 15 Benefit at CSA and Phys-Ed.

Some events have already been held.

The Soccer Club of New Milford held a prayer vigil for both families at the field at the John Pettibone School and the CT Sports Arena will also be a donation center for as long as needed.

To donate money, checks can be made payable to the "Fratino Family Support Fund" and the "Wilkinson Family Support Fund." The funds are set up at the Community Credit Union of New Milford, 145 Danbury Road, New Milford 06776.

According to the Facebook page, immediate clothing needs include:

  • Boys, sizes 7 and 8.
  • Maternity size M or size 10 for the mother, who is eight months pregnant.
  • Clothes can be donated on Thursday at A Time For Children Daycare, 85 Park Lane and Connecticut Sports Arena, 32 Still River Drive.
  • After Thursday, the group will accept gift cards rather than clothing for Kohl's, Walmart, Big Y, Stop n' Shop and local restaurants.
  • Anyone donating gift cards can bring them to Peggy Remlin at Big Y in New Milford off of Route 7. She works at the service desk. State that they are for the New Milford Explosion Community Relief.
