A crash involving a police officer and at least three other cars at the intersection of Hart and Lincoln Streets in New Britain Monday.
On Monday night, investigators released new information on a police chase that ended in a frightening crash and sent an officer to the hospital.
They said they were looking for Jose Marcano, who was allegedly driving a stolen car, when his dangerous actions led a four car crash at Lincoln St and Hart St.
“It was just crazy it all happened so fast,” said one man who was hit head on by a police cruiser after a truck slammed into it. “On top of a bad day, it's a worse day.”
He told NBC Connecticut he was following his father who was getting rushed to the hospital.
“If it would have happened 8 or 9 seconds sooner it would have hit the ambulance and not a cop car,” the man explained.
He said the problems started down the block when Marcano supposedly sideswiped a truck and took off.
Then he said he watched the driver of that truck try chasing him down.
“The guy tried to pass him and totally scraped his truck,” he explained.
The truck t-boned the police cruiser and sending it right into oncoming traffic.
Detectives said Jose Marcano was on the run from them at the time. He allegedly stole his girlfriend’s car at an apartment complex Monday afternoon after they got into a fight.
When police got the 911 call, they chased him across the city but could not catch him.
“I hope they do catch him because someones paying for my car,” one victim said.
Investigators never imagined the four car crash would have been the outcome after calling off their pursuit.
Police said Jose Marcano was in a blue 2 door Honda Civic. The plate number is 594-XWV.
The officer in the crash and the driver of the truck were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. There was no word if that truck driver would be ticketed for supposedly going after Marcano.
