New Britain Woman Charged in 7-Month-Old Daughter's Death

A New Britain mother is facing charges after she reportedly fell asleep in the bathtub with her infant daughter, causing the baby to drown, police said.

Police said it happened Sept. 21 when 34-year-old Erin Lujan, of 370 High Street, Apt. 107 in New Britain, decided to take a bath with her 7-month-old daughter. Lujan told police the baby had been fussy all day and she was attempting to calm the child down.

Lujan fell asleep in the tub and told police that one of her other children woke her up after noticing water on the floor, according to police.

Police said four other children were home at the time of the incident and that all were under the age of 10.

Lujan was arrested on Oct. 11 and charged with second-degree manslaughter and five counts of risk of injury to a minor.

She’s held on a $100,000 bond.
