Name of New Canaan Officer Placed on Leave Released

A New Canaan police officer accused in a physical altercation at Tequila Mockingbird Restaurant in New Canaan while off-duty on Feb. 23 has been placed on administrative leave, according to a news release from the New Canaan police department.

On Monday, police said the officer placed on leave is Lieutenant Frederick Pickering.

The person who issued the complaint went to the New Canaan police department at 11:45 p.m. on Feb. 23 and reported being involved in a physical altercation with Pickering, an off-duty New Canaan Police Officer at the restaurant at 6 Forest St.

The complainants also told police that someone in the group with Pickering used racially offensive language. 

The police department reached out to the Stamford State’s Attorney’s office and a criminal investigation has begun.

Police said Pickering has been placed on leave, pending the criminal investigation.

Police said more information will be released when the investigation is complete.
