New Executive Director for Women's Commission

Connecticut's Permanent Commission on the Status of Women has tapped a new executive director.

The organization announced Thursday that Carolyn Treiss will oversee the 40-year-old organization, which was created by the General Assembly to advise lawmakers on matters affecting women.

Treiss has a background in public policy, social services and advocacy. A former board president of the Connecticut branch of the National Organization for Women, Treiss is the former director of the abortion-rights group NARAL Pro-Choice CT, the former chief of staff at the Office of Health Care Access and a former legislative program manager at the Department of Social Services.

She replaces Teresa C. Younger, who led the state agency for the past seven years until June, when she left to lead the Ms. Foundation for Women.
