School bus drivers in New Haven on Tuesday afternoon reached a deal with First Student, the bus company they work for, and buses will continue to run according to their normal schedules.

"Education is a team effort that involves the hard work of many professionals, including teachers, principals, paraprofessionals, custodians, cafeteria workers and school bus drivers. I congratulate both First Student and the bus drivers for reaching an agreement today that respects the interests of all involved and allows our kids to continue to have a productive school year,” Mayor John DeStefano Jr. said in a news release on Tuesday afternoon.

More than 100 bus drivers walked off the job last Thursday after they said representatives from First Student refused to discuss contract negotiations with union members.

At the time, bus drivers said they want better wages and benefits.
