New Haven police are investigating the report of a suspicious shooting in the area of Blatchley Avenue and Lombard Street.
According to police, 53-year-old Nitza Munoz, whom officers suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, walked into the Fair Haven police substation on Blatchley Avenue the night of Oct. 15 and told an officer she had been shot in the buttocks.
Munoz told police she was standing at the corner of Blatchley Avenue and Lombard Street when she heard gunfire and felt pain, authorities said.
Police said Munoz would not provide any additional information about the incident, and fought with hospital staff after she was brought over to receive treatment. According to police, there was no evidence of gunfire in the area Munoz described, and police said the victim’s clothing “didn’t support her claim” of being shot.
No one else reported hearing gunshots or noticing a victim, police said.
Authorities are investigating.
