New Haven Public School Teacher Arrested for Inappropriate Conduct With Student

A New Haven Public School teacher who was under investigation for alleged inappropriate conduct with an Engineering and Science University Magnet School student has been arrested, the school said.

Kirvana Jones, a teacher employed by the New Haven Public School system, is being accused of second degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, officials from the city of New Haven said.

At the beginning of February, the New Haven mayor's office told NBC Connecticut that the investigation was for "unprofessional" conduct with a student at the magnet school.

The investigation began when another student came forward, alleging inappropriate conduct between Jones and another student.

Jones was "immediately" removed from the classroom, New Haven Public Schools said in a statement.

New Haven school officials said they do not believe any other students or teachers were affected or involved.

The New Haven Police and the State Department of Children and Families conducted an investigation, the statement said.

ESUMS is a New Haven school located in Hamden.

Jones is being held on a $75,000 bond.

Court officials said the documents in the case are sealed.
