A Norwalk man accused of abusing a 2-year-old girl was arrested on Friday while he was in court for another case, according to police.
Police arrested 31-year-old Pedro Salinas on Friday at the courthouse in Norwalk.
The arrest came after the Special Victims Unit started investigating following a report of child abuse from the Department of Children and Families on May 26.
Police said the 2-year-old had been brought to Norwalk Hospital for a medical condition and was transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital because of the seriousness of her condition, police said.
The child had been living with family at Salinas’ home, according to police.
He’s been charged with first-degree assault, cruelty to persons and risk of injury to a minor. Bond was set at $150,000. It’s not clear if he has an attorney.
