A 15-year-old who appeared to be on drugs caused a frightening scene at a school in Norwalk on Monday.

The teen walked into the annex building at the Side by Side Charter School at 10 Chestnut Street around 2:45 p.m., according to police. He got in through an external classroom door, police said.

He walked through the classroom and into the lobby area where he was confronted by a teacher. As the teacher began to escort the boy out of the school, the teen turned and punched the teacher in the face. A second teacher came to the aid of the injured teacher and was also punched in the face, police said.

The school was briefly placed on lockdown as police were called to the scene.

When officers arrived, the teen, ran out the back of the school and was stopped in the school parking lot, where police took him into custody. According to police, the 15-year-old appeared to be on some type of drug. He was taken to Norwalk Hospital for an evaluation. He is known to police, but they did not release his identity on Monday because of his age.

The two teachers who were punched were not seriously injured, police said.

The teen was charged with two counts of third-degree assault, criminal trespass on school grounds, risk of injury to a minor and possession of marijuana.
