Twelve people were injured and five people lost their lives in the Middletown explosion, Middletown mayor Sebastian N. Giuliano said.  A fire official says no one is known to be missing.

26 people were treated for injuries.  Two people were admitted, according to Middlesex Hospital.

One of the issues officials are facing is that several contractors were working at the scene.

“To be able to sort all that out will take some time,” Giuliano said.

Officials are not releasing victims’ names because not all families have been notified, Giuliano said.

The Middletown power plant where the explosion happened on Sunday was about 95 percent complete and was set to begin operating this summer.
