President Barack Obama is coming to Bridgeport just before Election Day to headline a rescheduled rally for Gov. Dannel Malloy.
In an email sent Tuesday to supporters, the state party said Obama will appear Nov. 2.
"GREAT NEWS: President Barack Obama is coming back to Bridgeport, Connecticut on Sunday, November 2nd to rally Democrats right before Election Day," Connecticut Democrats said in the email.
The president was originally scheduled to appear in Bridgeport for a Malloy campaign rally last week but abruptly canceled a planned trip to convene a meeting of his Cabinet about the government's response to Ebola.
State Democrats have said people who had tickets for the original rally will have priority to attend the newly scheduled event.
"I'm thrilled that President Obama and Governor Malloy will be making a joint appearance in Bridgeport on November 2," Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch said in a statement Tuesday evening.
"Bridgeport needs strong friends in order to bring about our vision for the city and its future," the statement continued. "President Obama is a strong friend. Gov. Malloy is a strong friend. Working together, we are helping make Bridgeport better every day."
Malloy is in a tight race against Republican challenger Tom Foley. Obama's visit is seen as an opportunity for the Democrats to encourage the party faithful to come out and vote Nov. 4.
