A man involved in a police-involved shooting in Hartford on Saturday morning committed suicide, according to state police.

Police identified the deceased as Ramesh Dwayne Sweeney, 27, of Winchester Ave. in Hartford. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to police.

Police responded to Lenox Street at 4:47 a.m. on Saturday when the shotspotter identified gunshots in the area and saw a car speeding away, police said.

Police stopped the car when the driver turned onto Winchester Street and Sweeney ran, police said.

During the foot pursuit, there was an exchange of gunfire, according to police.

Sweeney was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police identified the police officer as Randall Finucane, who has been with the department about two years. The second officer is identified as Craig McLennan, who has two-and-a-half years of experience with Hartford police.
