A 17-year veteran New Haven police officer is recovering after being struck by a car during a police pursuit.

Police were chasing a car, which was reported stolen from Waterbury, and were able to box it in with two police cruisers.

The driver of the stolen car tried to get away and rammed into one of the cruisers, which in turn hit the female officers, said police.  The officer sustained minor leg injuries.

The driver got out of the car and ran away, said police.  Hamden’s canine unit was called in to help track down the suspect but had no luck.

Another suspect, a juvenile, was taken into custody.

While police were looking for the suspect, Hill Regional Career High School and the temporary site for the Davis Street School were put into lockdown.  Students were dismissed around 3:30 p.m.
