State Officials ID Man Killed in Lake Waramaug Boating Accident

State officials have identified the 50-year-old Stamford man who died in a boating accident on Lake Waramaug near the Kent, Washington and Warren town lines on Sunday as Ihor Korol, 50, of Stamford.

Korol and a 31pyear-old Stamford man, fell off the 12-foot fishing boat, according to officials from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Crews responded to the lake at 11:15 a.m. and rescued the 31-year-old man, who was transported to New Milford Hospital to be treated for mild hypothermia.

EnCon police from DEEP and several other agencies spent the afternoon searching for Korol and found his body around 4:30 p.m. in the area where the men fell in, around 150 yards from shore.

Korol and the other man were not wearing life jackets, according to DEEP and there weren't any personal flotation devices on the boat.

State police said the incident appears to be an accident and no foul play is suspected.
