A 42-year-old man is dead and an elderly woman was severely injured in a fire in Greenwich this morning.
The fire early Thursday morning that killed a 42-year-old man and severely injured an elderly woman appears to have been intentionally set, according to police.
The fire was at a house on Havemeyer Lane, on the Stamford border, but police have not released the exact address because officials are notifying family members of the victims.
Around 7 a.m., a neighbor saw flames and smoke coming from the windows of the house.
When police responded, they found the two residents.
Greenwich fire officials said heavy fire gutted part of the first floor of the house where the man and the woman had their bedrooms and that smoke caused heavy damage to the second floor.
The elderly woman has been brought to Bridgeport Hospital’s burn unit.
No names have been released because officials are in the process of notifying family. Police have also not released the relationship
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
