One Shot Outside New Haven Diner

One man was rushed to the hospital after being shot in the groin in New Haven.

According to police, an officer who was working an extra duty assignment at Cody's Diner, 95 Water St. heard several gunshots around 2:25 a.m.

The officer located Tauheed Harvey, 28 of Hamden, lying on the ground about 100 feet away from the diner.

Harvey was suffering from one gunshot to the groin. He was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital and rushed into surgery. He is listed in critical condition.

Few details about the shooting are known. The shooter has been described as a black male wearing a black sweatshirt or sweater. He is said to have fled the scene on foot.

Police have learned that the victim and suspect were arguing prior to the shooting as they waited in line to enter the busy diner.

As of 5:30 a.m. Water St. is closed to traffic between Brewery St. and Chestnut St. and closed to foot traffic between Brown St. and Chestnut St.  The closures will remain for several hours.
