In a Naugatuck kitchen, there was an illegal dentist office, officials said.

From the three-story house near the top of Oak Avenue, one of the tenants could look down at Borough Hall, where municipal inspectors work.

This tenant probably steered clear of the inspectors, who say she had no license to do what she was doing in the house: practicing dentistry.

When investigators went into the apartment on Tuesday, they found a makeshift dental chair, dental tools and signs of dental work.

What they did not find was sterilization equipment, plumbing or drainage, the Waterbury Republican-American reports.

Neighbors said people would come and go from the building but they had no idea why.

"I don't want anyone unqualified messing with my mouth," Lynn Udzinski, of Naugatuck, said.

Police are looking for the woman but won't release her name. They say she may have been licensed as a dentist in Brazil.

"Doctors have to pay a lot of money for licenses and insurance too," said Fran Keith of Naugatuck. "She may have been licensed where she came from and then come here to make money. That happens a lot."

"Everyone has his own ideas of what's right. Now It'll up to a judge to decide," the landlord's nephew, Umberto Rosa, said.
