Passenger Sexually Assaulted Uber Driver in Westport: Police

A Westport man is under arrest after police say he sexually assaulted an Uber driver early Wednesday morning.

Officers say they were called to a gas station on what was initially reported as an armed robbery of an Uber driver around 1:00 a.m. When officers arrived, they learned the Uber driver had pulled into the gas station after being sexually assaulted by a passenger who police later identified as Jason Karlen of Westport.

Police say Karlen had been picked up at the Green Farms train station. According to police, shortly after getting into the Uber, Karlen made sexually explicit comments, groped the driver and then began touching himself in the backseat.

After Karlen exited the car, officers say the Uber driver pulled into a gas station and called police.

Before police arrived, Karlen fled. Officers were able to identify him and arrest him at his house. Police say Karlen is facing charges including sexual assault, public indecency and threatening. He was held in lieu of $10,000 bond and was transported to Norwalk court for arraignment on Wednesday.
