Pedestrian Struck in Westbrook Hit-and-Run

State Police are investigating a hit-and-run at 196 Boston Post Road in Westbrook and looking for the 2006 Dodge Stratus or Chrysler Sebring believed to have been involved.

A man, described as middle age, was walking down the street early Friday morning when he was struck by a car that fled the scene, police said.

Someone who was heading to work called state police at 6:43 a.m. after seeing debris and the victim on the side of the road, Sgt. John Mesham, of Troop F, said.

Police believe the victim might have been alone on the grass for about 20 minutes after being struck.

Don Burr, a mechanic who works across the street, said he heard a thud on Friday morning but didn't think anything of it until police showed up 20 minutes later.

The victim was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital and is believed to be in serious condition.

Police said the car involved would have passenger side damage and is missing a side mirror.
