State police have arrested a 23-year-old Somers man accused of hitting a pedestrian in Ellington on Wednesday and fleeing from the scene.

Police found Michael Shaun Legare shortly after the crash on Maple Street and he was held on $50,000 bond.

Police said Legare struck Donald Akerkey, 74, of Ellington, around 11 a.m. and Lifestar helicopter was sent to the scene.

Ellington High School was locked down briefly as police searched for the driver.

The high school lifted the lockdown when state police notified school officials that they apprehended the driver.
