People Flock to Hartford for Events Despite Weather

The city of Hartford has implemented another parking ban as light snow created slushy roads Saturday evening, but that didn't stop fans from driving to Hartford for events like the Harlem Globetrotters game against the Washington Generals at the XL Center.

"“This is my first All-Star basketball game that I go to," Kyle Stolting, of Wallingford, said.

Wallingford resident Tracy Mitchell said her drive into Hartford that evening "was pretty slippery but it wasn’t bad. There wasn’t a lot of cars out.”

The game was one of several events taking place in Hartford today.

While the parking ban began at 4pm, police say they are keeping in mind people driving into the city and parking for events.

“We’re cognizant of the events going on in the city," Deputy Chief Brian Foley said. "We’re not going to start towing cars from anywhere in the city when there’s an event going. We’re doing everything we can not to tow cars through the early evening.”

Police are still asking drivers to move their cars off streets and to lots.

They say it makes it easier for plow trucks to do their jobs. Police say they realize these bans have tough on people who live in Hartford.

“We got to keep pushing," Foley said. "No one expected all this snow this winter. The whole city is a snow farm at this point but we have to do the best we can. Our fire trucks our fire apparatus need to navigate the streets and our ambulances need to get to the hospitals and the EDs."
