Pep Boys Employee Attacks Coworker With Machete: Police

A 28-year-old Hamden man is facing assault charges after striking a coworker with a machete at the Pep Boys where they worked, according to police.

Police said Marcus Rochester, of Glenbrook Avenue in Hamden, was involved in a dispute with another employee at the Pep Boys on Dixwell Avenue where they worked Tuesday afternoon.

Rochester allegedly retrieved a machete from his car and sliced the other employee, a 42-year-old man from Hamden, in the back of the neck, leaving a 4-to-6-inch gash, according to police.

Police said the blade was too dull to cause serious injury.

Officers responded to the scene around 3:30 p.m. and the store manager helped keep the employees apart while waiting for police.

Rochester was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal attempt to commit assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, second-degree threatening and breach of peace.

He’s due in court July 11.
