Mayor Denies Perez Vacation, Sick Time

Former Hartford mayor wants money for unused sick & vacation time

Disgraced former Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez demanded that the city pay him $131,590.32 in unused sick and vacation time, but current mayor Pedro Segarra said no.

Perez wrote a letter to the city saying he's owed 1,200 hours of vacation and 768 hours of sick time, according to political blogger Kevin Rennie's Daily Ructions.

Segarra said on Wednesday that he refuses to pay it because the information was not verifiable.

"The City of Hartford, and I as Mayor, cannot afford to be misled and that's why I have instructed the Office of Corporation Counsel to work with the Human Resources Department to review and closely analyze any and all documentation provided by Mr. Perez or his attorney and to take this matter to arbitration to ensure that the residents' interests are properly protected,” Segarra said in a statement.

Perez was found guilty last June on corruption charges and resigned as mayor. He is appealing his conviction.
