Police Arrest Driver in Fatal Yale Tailgating Crash

Brendan Ross turned himself into police Friday.

The student who was behind the wheel of a U-Haul truck that crashed into a crowd of tailgaters at the Yale-Harvard game was arrested Friday and is due in court on Monday.

Brendan Ross, 21, turned himself in to New Haven police just before 6 p.m., according to Officer David Hartman, and was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and reckless driving.

Ross, an undergraduate at Yale, was driving the U-Haul truck carrying beer kegs through a popular tailgating area before the Nov. 19 game between Yale and Harvard at Yale Bowl.

According to police, Ross lost control of the truck, striking three women.

Nancy Barry, 30, of Salem, Massachusetts, was killed. The two other women were injured, one seriously.

Ross passed a field sobriety test shortly after the collision, police said.

The incident led Yale University to reexamine the school's tailgating policies.
