Police Arrest Home Health Aide Suspected of Using Elderly Employer's ATM Card Without Permission: Southington Police

Police arrested a home health aide who is suspected of making unauthorized transactions with the ATM card of an elderly Southington resident she was employed to assist.

Southington officers arrested Eileen Vertucci, 48, of Meriden on a warrant on charges of second-degree larceny and illegal use of a credit card.

The warrant comes from a police investigation launched in June 2012 after someone helping an elderly woman with her finances noticed unauthorized transactions in her bank account made with her ATM card, police said.

Before this was discovered, Vertucci worked for the woman as a home health aide from April to June of 2012, police said.

During that time, Vertucci had access to her employer's ATM card and was authorized to use it on the woman's behalf at designated locations in Southington, according to the arrest warrant.

Investigators discovered that 53 unauthorized transactions were made using that card between April 16 and June 19 of 2012, amounting to a loss of about $7,145.

Police arrested Vertucci Nov. 21 and held her in custody in lieu of a $5,000 court-set bond. Vertucci was scheduled to appear in court in Bristol on Nov. 23.
