Hartford police have arrested a second suspect in a shooting that injured two people back in September.
Guy Pacheco, 22, of Hartford, was recently arrested in the Sept. 3, 2014 shooting. Video footage shows Pacheco handing a gun to Yamil Rohena, 19, of Hartford, who was arrested in October in connection to the shooting, police said. The video shows a shootout between Rohena and another male immediately after he gets the gun from Pacheco, police said.
Hartford police caught wind of the shooting when their ShotSpotter system detected more than seven gunshots fired in the area of 13 Nelson Street in the capital city on Sept. 3, 2014 at 9:30 p.m. Police responded, but they couldn't find any victims when they canvassed the area.
However, at 11:50 p.m. that night, two people went to the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain to be treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Hartford police found six 9-millimeter shell casings on the sidewalk the next day in the area where the ShotSpotter detected the shooting.
The Hartford Police Department Shooting Task Force continued investigating and identified Pacheco as a second suspect. Police obtained a signed warrant on July 27.
Officers arrested Pacheco and charged him with first-degree conspiracy to commit assault, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal use of a firearm.
The court set his bond at $1 million.
Rohena was arrested on Oct. 15, 2014. He is incarcerated at John R. Manson Youth Institution in Cheshire and was sentenced to 731 days of imprisonment with special parole for two years on charges of carrying a pistol without a permit.
