Police Charge Man in Fireworks, Explosives Scare

A New Haven man accused of storing the cache of fireworks in New Haven that led police to block off a street on Thursday has been arrested.

Police began investigating at 17 Hubinger St. when a tenant who lives on the second floor called police at 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday to report smoky materials coming from the first floor, police said.

Police originally said "improvised explosives" were inside the apartment. But when they obtained a search warrant, they determined that they were a small cache of large m-80 and m0100 type fireworks, police said.

Christopher Clark, 26, turned himself in on Thursday morning and has been charged with ilegal possession of explosives and failure to have narcotics in the original container. He was held on a $150.000 bond.
