Police Investigate Middletown Homicide

Police said hikers found a woman's body in a wooded area off Miner Street Saturday afternoon.

The Middletown Police Department is investigating after a woman was found dead in a wooded area off Miner Street.

Police said two hikers followed a trail of blood and found the woman face-down, half submerged under a bridge off Minet Street near the Westfield Falls waterfalls just before 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Residents said the woman was found in an area where children frequently hang out.

Police describe the woman as Hispanic, 5-feet-4' to 5-feet-6, in her mid-20s to early early 30s, 110 to 120 pounds with long brown hair. She also has a heart-shaped tattoo on her rear shoulder, police said.

State Police Major Crimes is assisting Middletown Police with the investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, but police are treating the woman's death as a homicide.

It is the first in the city since 2009, when Wesleyan University student, Johanna Justin-Jinich, was shot and killed in an off-campus bookstore café.

Anyone with information or knows of a missing female matching this description is asked to call the Middletown Police Department at (860) 344-3200.
