State police are searching for the person who shot a dog in Marlborough.

Troopers responded to a home on Portland Road on Monday after a man reported someone had fired shots at his residence. The man and his girlfriend heard gunshots discovered their sliding glass door shattered and found their dog had been shot.

The dog was taken to a vet to have bullets removed. The dog's condition is not known.

Investigators found shell casings outside of the residence, but have not developed any suspects, police said.
