Police Investigate Attempted Armed Robbery at Southington Wal-Mart

A man with a gun tried to rob the Wal-Mart on Queen Street in Southington on Friday morning and police are looking for him.

The robber walked up to one of the registers at the store at 235 Queen St, around 8 a.m. on Friday with a bottle of iced tea.

When the clerk went to ring up the iced tea, he lifted his shirt to show a handgun tucked into his waistband and demanded money from the register, police said.

The clerk yelled and the robber fled without taking any money and got into a light blue Scion TC in the parking lot and fled on Queen Street.

Witnesses were not sure what state the license plate was from, but said it had the number 300 followed by an unknown combination of three letters.

The robber was wearing jeans, a blue baseball cap, a two-tone gray shirt with blue sleeves. He is around 5-feet-8, weighs between 160 and 170 pounds and has a well-trimmed beard.

Anyone with information should call Detective James Armack at 860-378-1649.
