Hamden Woman Tied Up During Home Invasion

Hamden police are searching for the man who broke into a woman's apartment, tied her up and stole her car, electronics and debit card on Monday.

The victim, a 26-year-old woman, was sleeping in her home at the Seramonte apartments at 57 Kaye Vue Drive in Hamden when the intruder broke in through a bathroom window around 1 p.m. Monday, police said.

Police said the suspect, who had a gun, tied the woman's hands behind her bag and bound her feet together, then grabbed her debit card and demanded her pin number. According to police, he threatened to come back for her if she gave him the wrong number.

He took electronic equipment and fled in her black Subaru Impreza hatchback with Connecticut license plates reading 436-YRA, police said.

Although the victim was not physically harmed, police said she's rattled.

"She's very traumatized, emotionally upset," explained Hamden police Capt. Ronald Smith.

While investigating, police found another broken back window. Authorities are searching for a suspect and investigating to determine whether they may have been a second break-in.

Police said the suspect is a heavyset black man. Authorities released surveillance footage Tuesday of a person of interest who matches this description.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Hamden police Det. Mark Consorte at 203-230-4040.
