Police Make Arrest in New London Homicide

Police have arrested a man in connection with the Christmas day murder of his roommate in New London.

Sebastian Tzampop, 29, was charged in the beating and strangulation death of 39-year-old Antonio Chajon.

According to police, Chajon was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of a second-story residence at 15 Hope Street around 11 a.m. Wednesday. He was pronounced dead on scene.

State police processed the scene and searched the home Wednesday evening.

Police said Tzampop confessed to the killing Chajon after the two got into a fight inside their apartment.

Medical examiners determined the cause of death was a result of a "compression of the neck with blunt injuries of head and trunk," according to New London Police Deputy Chief Peter Reichard.

According to investigators both men are originally from the village of Chocojan, Guatemala and Tzampop has an arrest history with the New London Police Department.

Neighbors said they didn't know much about the victim and had never noticed anything unusual.

"I'm thinking, what kind of neighborhood is this? What's going on?" said Green.

Tzampop is being held under a $1 million bond. His arraignment is scheduled for Monday in New London Superior Court.

Anyone with information is asked to contact New London police at 860-447-1481.
