Police Shoot Gunman in New London

A man who pulled a gun on a group of officers was shot by police Saturday night is currently in stable condition, police say.

Police responded to a 911 call about a shooting at 1110 Ocean Avenue just after 8 p.m.  The caller told dispatchers the shooter was still in the building, police said.

When officers arrived, a man standing in front of the building told them he was the person they were looking for, then pulled a gun from his clothing and pointed it at the officers, according to police.

The man refused to drop the weapon, and the officers opened fire, hitting the suspect, police said.

He was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London where he is listed in stable condition.  The suspect's name and condition were not released Saturday night.

The officer-involved shooting was being investigated by the State Police and the State's Attorney's Office.

No officers were injured, and it turned out no one was shot in the initial call of a shooting at the Ocean Avenue address, police said.
