Police Investigate Whether Two Armed Robberies Are Connected

Police are investigating whether an armed robbery at a Citgo gas station in Meriden on Wednesday morning is connected to a similar robbery at a Sunoco station in Wethersfield about an hour earlier.

Officers responded to the 1015 Broad Street HH Citgo Mart in Meriden at 3:48 a.m. to investigate a reported robbery, police said.

Two men wearing white "Halloween" masks and dark hooded sweatshirts robbed the store. One of the men jumped over the counter as the other suspect "walked around to the back of the counter," police said. The robbers were caught on surveillance footage and police are looking for them.

One robber brandished an "electronic defense weapon" and used it on the store clerk, who reported feeling a shock, police said. Due to the thick clothes he was wearing, the device did not injure him or leave a mark, police said.

They stole cigarettes and a cash register drawer, police said.

Police are looking for a white Chevy Malibu that may be connected to the robbery, police said.

At 3 a.m., three men, two of whom wore masks, grabbed the cash register at the Sunoco station at 1780 Berlin Turnpike in Wethersfield and fled. It is not clear what kind of weapons they had.

Police ask anyone with information to call 203-630-6250.
