Man Shot and Killed Hours After Party to Honor Other Homicide Victim

A 24-year-old New Haven man was shot and killed in West Haven on Sunday night, not far from the site of a block party held hours earlier to honor another homicide victim, according to neighbors.

West Haven police responded to Dalton and Tuthill streets at 9:45 p.m. on Sunday after gunshots were reported and found several shell casings on Dalton Street, but no victim, police said.

As officers were investigating, officials from Yale New-Haven Hospital reached out to police to report that a victim with a single gunshot wound to his chest had arrived at the hospital in someone else’s vehicle.

The victim, identified as Laquan Young, 24, of New Haven, later died from his injuries and police are investigating the case as a homicide.

Neighbors said the shooting happened hours after a block party held in honor of Erika Robinson,  a resident of the street who was killed in a shooting inside the Key Club in New Haven on Oct. 26, 2013.
