Police have arrested a man suspected in a bank robbery at the People's Bank branch at a Branford Stop & Shop.

Detectives arrested Rudolph Diaz, 30, of East Haven, on Saturday.

According to police, Diaz robbed the People's Bank branch inside the Stop & Shop at 22 Leetes Island Road just before 2 p.m. on Thursday. Diaz and a woman were captured on surveillance video at the bank, police said.

"This investigation moved swiftly through the investigative process with the assistance of the East Haven Police Department, whose officers worked closely with our investigators to determine the identity of Diaz," said Detective Lt. William Carroll, of the Branford Police Department.

The woman in the surveillance video has been identified and an arrest is imminent, Carroll said.

Diaz faces charges of first-degree robbery, third-degree larceny, conspiracy and criminal weapon possession. He is being held on $300,000 bond and was scheduled to be in court Monday.
